Writing Festival OCTE
Oregon Writing Festival - Saturday, May 4, 2019
Update - the festival is on, but Twality is not participating this year. If your child is seriously enthusiastic, I can possibly arrange for him/her to attend, but it would be a non-school sanctioned event. Paperwork and driving would be up to the parent.
I am truly sorry about this. It's a wonderful event and it's the first time in 15 years that I haven't taken kids.
Authors: Susan Hill Long, Lisa Schroeder, and Brian Doyle. Wow!
- Kids should show up at Twality at 7:00 a.m.
- Wear school appropriate clothing
- Bring a sack lunch
- If possible, send money to buy books. It's special to get them autographed, and both Graham Salisbury and April Henry will be there to autograph.
- We are usually back at Twality around 4:00- 4:30.

Every year I take my top student writers to Portland State University the first Saturday in May for a fabulous day of writing and sharing writing, as well as listening to authors and buying books (even getting them autographed). This year it will be held on Saturday, May 7.
The middle school author this year will be best-selling author, Roland Smith. He has many best-selling books, although some are better suited for 5th-6th grades, many are appropriate for middle school. I just finished Beneath and The Edge, and both were excellent.
If your child loves to write, send me an email or have him/her talk to me about it. I will get them started on a writing sample. The cost is $35.00 plus lunch and money for books (optional) and ice cream afterwards. Last year the PSO paid for the bus and I believe they will do so again this year. That will save us the hassle of figuring out car-pooling of parents.
